NTU and UON Leadership and Mentoring Development with our volunteers

Working with Nottingham Trent University and University of Nottingham.

At 3Pillars Project, our volunteers are at the heart of what we do, bringing their passion, knowledge, and commitment to every session. With backgrounds in sports science, coaching, and rehabilitation, they play a vital role in engaging young people through sport, mentoring, and leadership development.

Back in 2024, our coach, Pickle visited Nottingham Trent University to attend the volunteer’s fair. The volunteer co-ordinaries recommended Izzy, who showed passion for working with young people and brought a lot of experience from her netball background, as well as a past teaching.

From coaching drills and skill games to mentoring participants and leading discussions, our volunteers create a positive, inclusive environment where young people can grow in confidence and develop key life skills. Each volunteer brings something unique:

  • Izzy started her volunteering journey with us in November and is studying BSC Sports Science & Coaching at Nottingham Trent University. She has been a coach for a number of years and has completed a year teaching PE in a school. "I think sport is one of the most important practices young people can be involved in as it teaches a number of different life lessons which 3Pillars seems to have incorporated in their programme. I am passionate about helping young people and being a good role model for them. I think 3Pillars is an amazing opportunity to get as many young people involved with sport as possible and I would be very excited to be a part of that."

  • Abigail started with us in December and is currently studying BS Sport Rehabilitation at UNo.

Abigail is familiar with the Wildcats Arena, where our multi-sports sessions take place, due to her previous work with the basketball teams there. She has a strong interest in netball and brings her expertise to our sessions.

  • Nathan started with us in October and is currently studying BSc Sport Rehabilitation at UNo and is currently doing a work placement for a football team in Derby. Nathan has a background in rugby and football, having played both sports during his school years. His passion for giving back to the community and his love for working with kids make him a great addition to our team.

  • Tanay started with us in November and is currently studying BSc Sport Rehabilitation at UNo. Tanay is familiar with the Wildcats Arena, where our multi-sports sessions take place, due to his placement with the physiotherapy team for the basketball teams.

He is eager to expand his knowledge and contribute wherever needed.

Their dedication ensures that every session is engaging, supportive, and impactful, helping young people build resilience, leadership, and confidence. We are incredibly grateful for their contributions and the difference they make in the lives of those we work with.
